Racioanis Mc’s members Mano Brown, Edi Rock, KL Jay and Ice Blue will arrive in the US in July 2022 for a 33rdanniversary concert celebration. For the rappers it’s an incredible achievement to celebrate33 years together, as friends, as a family, as brothers. They will bring all thathistory to the stage as a gift for their fans. The setlist will be a retrospect of the Racionais’ career, including songs from all albums released by the groupsuch as,‘Tempos Dificeis’, ‘Panicona Zona Sul’, ‘VozAtiva’, ‘Homemna Estrada’, ‘Capitulo 4 Versiculo 3’, ‘Negro Drama’ and newer compositions. The Racionais’ commitment, since their start in 1988, has been to raise awareness of structural inequality in Brazil using raw lyrics, beats and scratches that are unique. Through their music, they inspired a whole generation to understand that art could be a path to overcome hardship. In the 90’s the hip hop movement and its core values, introduced in Brazil by the Racionais, played a main rolein shaping a new neighborhood identityin Sao Paulo and after that across the county. Even though, the hoods in Sao Paulo were considered by the UN (United Nations)the most dangerous place in the planet at the time, the identity built by the 4 guys of strong personality, created concrete initiatives and programs to help the community through music. Throughout their 33 year career, the rappers understand the importance of being connected with the presentwithout losing the essence of their beginnings, they are ready to bring their art worldwide. Acclaimed in Brazil’s rap scene as alegendthey are now ready to take the world and show that the best is still to come. The longevity of the group is impressive, with their history ofovercoming barriers, opening paths and planting seeds of equality their success spread out across Brazil’s different social classes.

MANO BROWN

VOCAL

Mano Brown grew up in the hoods in Sao Paulo. He was raised by his mother Ana and never met his father, but he mentioned once that he was of Italian descendant. Brown always mentions and honor his mother on his music, for example in Negro Drama there is a bar that says: “Ai, Dona Ana, sem palavras, a senhora e uma rainha!” (Hey, mom, words are not enough, you are a queen!). In 2016 the rapper started his career with a first solo album ‘Boogie Naipe’ feat Lino Krizz in almost all tracks, it was a mix of soul and funk styles inspired on Marvin Gaye and other artists of the black music scene in the 70s and 80s. ‘Boogie Naipe’ was considered by the Rolling Stones Brazil magazine the 4th best Brazilian album of the year 2016. In 2017, it was nominated to the Latin Grammys in the ‘Best Pop Contemporary Album in Portuguese Language’ category. Later on ‘Boogie Naipe’ became the name of the recording studio that he founded with his wife. His repertoire includes big hits such as ‘Vida Loka I’, "Vida Loka II", "Negro Drama" (feat Edi Rock), "A Vida é Desafio", "Jesus Chorou", "Da Ponte pra Cá", "Capítulo 4, Versículo 3", "Tô Ouvindo Alguém Me Chamar", "Diário de um Detento", "Fórmula Mágica da Paz", "Homem na Estrada", "Fim de Semana no Parque" (feat Edi Rock), "Mano Na Porta do Bar", "Negro Limitado" (feat Edi Rock), "Pânico na Zona Sul" e "Eu Sou 157". In 2015, Mano Brown and the Brazilian artist Naldo Benny recorded the single ‘Benny & Brown’.                 Part of the music video has recorded in the hoods of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in the places where he and Naldo grew up.

ICE BLUE

VOCAL

Ice Blue is a founding member of the rap group Racionais Mc’s. He hosts the radio show ‘Balanco Rap’ in Brazil along with KL Jay, another member of the group. His nickname was inspired by the Jorge Ben Jor’s song ‘Nego Blue’. Mano Brown says that it started because “He always looked good”. Ice Blue is constantly engaged in social welfare programs. He recorded successful feats with other rappers, such as ‘Diario de Um Detento” and “Inimigo e De Graca”. He organized Rap festivals in Sao Paulo and is an active member of the hip-hop movement in Brazil. Ice Blue started his entrepreneurial journey with his own clothing brand ‘iceblue!’. The rapper is working on ‘Preso Na Teia’ album, which will be a solo project.

EDI ROCK

VOCAL

Edi Rock started his career in 1984 in small parties with his partner KL Jay. In 1988, in the hoods of Sao Paulo he stated the Racionais Mc’s with KL Jay, Mano Brown and Ice Blue. He is the creator of songs with his partners Mano Brown and Ice blue, such as ‘Magico de Oz’, ‘Tempos Dificeis’, ‘Negro Drama’, ‘A Vida e Desafio’ and ‘Rapaz Comum’ and many others. He also worked on the song ‘Rebellions’ with the English Band Asian Dub Foundation. the song is about how the crime organization PCC orchestrated rebellions against the government in 2001. In 2012, Edi Rock released the song ‘That’s My Way’ a feat with Seu Jorge. The song was nominated to the VMB Award on the ‘Best Music Video’ category, but the winner song was ‘Mil Faces de um Homem Leal’ by Racionais Mc’s. Alongside with his work in the Racionais Mc’s he released a solo album ‘Contra Nos Ninguem Sera’.

KL JAY

DJ KL Jay started his career in 1984 in small parties with his partner Edi Rock. Vinyl and cassette tape were the few tools they had to work with but they would still keep the party alive until morning in the hoods of Sao Paulo. A few years later, after seen the work of DJ Cash Money, an influential artist in the Brazilian hip-hop scene, KL Jay fell in love with DJing. However, it was after he saw DJ Easy Lee with the rapper Kool Moe Dee in action that he was sure that this would be his life. He was a founder of the Racionais Mc’s towards the end of the 80’s. KL Jay and the rapper Xis started a recording studio together. Their business was such a success that it evolved to be a events production and a clothing manufacturing called 4P. In 2002 he released his first solo album ‘KL Jay na Batida – Vol III’ with his own record label. KL Jay and Xis produced the most important DJ Championship of Brazil for 10 years. The competition was called ‘O Hip Hop DJ’, many great names of the national’s hip hop scene were discovered there. The Racionais MC’S and KL Jay are partners on ‘Casa Nostra’ record label. He’s also the solo owner of ‘Equilibrio’ record label, that has released albums for the groups Sistema Negro, Cagebe e Relatos da Invasao. KL Jay was the host of MTV’s show ‘Yo! MTV Raps’. He was the residency DJ at ‘Soweto’ between 1994 and 1996, the night club was the home of the hip hop movement in Sao Paulo.  Currently, he plays with DJ Ajamu and DJ Marco and DJ Will at a party know as ‘Sintonia’, this project has been going on for 6 years with concerts all over Brazil. In 2008 he released ‘FitaMixada – Rotacao 33’ which was another solo project. His son, DJ Kalfani, followed the father’s footsteps and is part of the group Pollo.
